ACCIONA Concessions and ACCIONA Construction, through AMISA, have participated in the “Global Entrepreneurship Forum for Public-Private Partnerships 2017: A turning point in infrastructure project funding”, held on 1 November in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, which focused on developing public-private partnership models to fund infrastructure projects.
The event was organized by the UAE’s Ministry of Infrastructure and the International Road Federation (IRF) and was attended by over 250 participants, especially opinion leaders, companies and infrastructure professionals. A total of 13 conferences were held related to different aspects of these projects.
Alberto Salamanca, Deputy to Global Head of Business Development at ACCIONA Concessions, gave the presentation “PPP models as a way to develop infrastructure”, in which he analyzed the different types of funding currently available to undertake large international infrastructure projects, the participants in a PPP model and the phases involved. He also presented some of ACCIONA’s projects and success stories from recent years in different parts of the world.
In the past decades, the public-private partnership models have grown significantly, enabling Public Administrations to include the resources and experience of the private sector in developing infrastructures and providing basic services to citizens.
There were an estimated 100 PPP transactions at the close of 2016, with an approximate total value of $134 billion. By region and overall project figures, Europe, Latin America and North America have the most transactions of this type. However, considering the total value of the transactions, Asia also enjoys an increasingly vibrant position in the implementation of this type of partnership.
